Measure and scale PDF floor plans using Bluebeam November 03, 2015 / Veriscian / Support Team Note: the following guide was prepared using Bluebeam Revu which is the paid version of the software, however it is also possible to achieve the same thing using the Free Bluebeam Vu software.

1. Change the Rendering Style in Revu:

The Wait for completion Rendering Style disables partial redrawing of the display. Instead, the screen will not update until the full page is ready to display.

  1. In Revu, click Settings > Preferences or press Ctrl+K.
  2. Click Rendering on the left.
  3. Select Wait for completion in the Rendering Style dropdown menu and click OK.

Why this can help:

  • Total redraw time is reduced on 4K and other high-resolution displays.

2. Change the power settings in Windows:

Aggressive power saving settings sacrifice display performance in order to reduce power consumption and extend battery life. They affect both laptops and desktops.

  1. Click Start, type power settings and select Power & sleep settings.
  2. Choose Additional power settings at the bottom, which will open the Power Options in the Control Panel.
  3. Select the arrow to the left of Show additional plans to display the hidden plans.
  4. Select the High performance or Maximum performance.

How this helps:

  • Improves display performance by increasing the resources Windows provides to the GPU.
If you're using a laptop, this change will reduce your battery life. You may want to return to your original settings if this doesn't improve your performance in Revu.

3. Update the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable:

Install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Update 3. This includes updates that will improve Revu's display performance.

  • PDFs with large images, such as scans, will display faster.

4. Update the Microsoft .NET Framework

Install the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2, if you are using Windows 7 SP1, 8.1 or 10 (below Creators Update version 1107). This .NET version contains performance improvements over previous versions. Click here to find which Windows version you're running.

Save your work and close all programs before starting the installation. Restarting Windows is often required when the installation completes and you should restart even if you're not prompted to do so.

The .NET Framework installation will take a few minutes to complete.

Now that you know How to improve performance in Bluebeam Revu 2016 and 2017, here are some Tips to improve PC performance in Windows 10. Nothing specific to Bluebeam, just some tried and true ways of getting everything you can out of Windows 10.

Have you ever had a PDF in Bluebeam that seemed to take forever to load? Well this is most likely due to one of Bluebeam's default preferences (the render setting) that is supposed to make viewing faster, but typically slows it down. By changing your rendering settings in preferences, you can increase the speed at which your pages typically load. See below for details how to update your preferences. I have also included a couple other preferences changes I recommend.
Keep Beaming,
Ralph

Find Your Preferences

To access your Bluebeam preferences click on the big 'R' in the top right corner and click preferences. Or type Ctrl+K.

Rendering:

For your rendering style, you can either choose 1) Wait for Completion, 2) Iterative Draw, or 3) Iterative Draw with Sweetener.
  • Wait for Completion (My recommendation) will wait until the document is ready to be draw in full detail before updating the page. This setting will take less time to load drawings and when they do load, the complete drawings will appear.
  • Iterative Draw (Default) will load some of the page before the whole document is ready and then load the rest as it becomes ready. This setting is a little slower and will load smaller pieces of the drawing at a time.
  • Iterative Draw with Sweetener is like Iterative Draw except it keeps the last few pages in memory once they have loaded the first time. Making it a little faster.

Navigation Preferences

Modifying the mouse scroll wheel to be consistent with the rest of windows I found to be really helpful.
Navigation --> Mouse Wheel --> Single Page Mode: --> Scroll. This will make the scroll wheel work the same whether you are in single page mode or continuous page mode. Now to zoom in and out, just hold in Ctrl and use your mouse wheel.

General

I recommend updating your username as it is tied to all your comments.

I recommend your full name So 'rkreider' becomes 'Ralph Kreider'
Take some time to try out difference preferences to make Bluebeam work the best for you.

Trying to access Bleu beam remotely through VPN, blue bean works good when I'm at the office. when I try to access remotely from home connecting through a vpn, blue bean does not appear to open pdfs, I have to push the vertical tool space line located on the left side of the program an pdf finally regenerates, if I attempt to add text or anything to the pdf it does not show the change, making me think nothing was done, I safe the file, close it and when I open it again the revisions show.
is there a setting that I need to change ?
