The Q3 Results for 2020 was shared by Facebook on October 29, 2020. The information below includes the most current information provided directly by Facebook in their reports to Wall Street.   1. Core Message/Takeaway: There are over 3.21 billion people actively using Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or Messenger each month and according to Facebook are considered Family Monthly Active People (MAP).
  2. Worldwide, there are over 2.74 billion monthly active users (MAUs) as of October 29, 2020. This is a 12 percent increase in Facebook MAUs year-over-year. This is compared to 2.38 billion MAUs for Q1 2019 and 2.38 billion MAUs for December 2019. (Source: Facebook 07/30/2020) Facebook is simply too big to ignore as an on-going part of your digital marketing communications program. Not including Instagram, WhatsApp or other properties other than Facebook.
  3. 1.82 billion people on average log onto Facebook daily and are considered daily active users (Facebook DAU) for September 2020. This represents a 12 percent increase in year-over-year. This compares to 1.66 billion DAU for December 2019. (Source: Facebook 10/2020). Sixty-six percent of Facebook's audience would be considered Daily Active Users (DAU) versus Monthly Active Users (MAU). The Implication: A huge and vastly growing number of Facebook users are active and consistent in their visits to the site, making them a promising audience for your marketing efforts.
  4. Family Daily Active People (DAP) was 2.54 billion on September 2020 and 2.36 billion on average for March 2020 an increase of 15 percent year-over-year. Family DAP means someone has logged into Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and/or WhatsApp. This is compared to 2.26 billion on average for Q4 2019 an increase of 11 percent year-over-year.   5. Family Monthly Active People (MAP) was 3.21 billion as of September 30, 2020, an increase of 14 percent year-over-year. This is compared to 2.89 billion for Q4/December 31, 2019, which was an increase of 9 percent year-over-year. See note below that explains Family metrics in more detail.

  6. Facebook Ad Revenues for Q3: $21,221 (in millions) up 22 percent year-over-year which was $17,383. This is significant especially given our current global pandemic issues.
  7. Facebook Worldwide Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) is $7.05 for Q2 2020 versus $6.95 for Q1 2020 which would appear to be directly connected to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Facebook press release announcing the Q1 2020 Results, 'We experienced a significant reduction in the demand for advertising, as well as a related decline in the pricing of our ads, over the last three weeks of the first quarter of 2020.'   8. According to eMarketer, Facebook's growth is happening in developing countries where they claim Facebook will gain more than 250 million users between 2019 and 2023.
  9. Facebook is the third-most visited website outranked only by Google and YouTube.
  10. According to Pew Research a 2019 study survey showed that among U.S. adults who use Facebook, around three-quarters (74%) visit the site at least once a day. The share of adult Facebook users who visit the site at least once a day is higher than the shares of Instagram users (63%) and Snapchat users (61%) who visit those sites at least daily.
  11. Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger occupy three of the top 10 positions on the Apple App Store showing how prevalent the Facebook family is in our daily lives.

According to research commissioned by Facebook from Accenture, Gen Zers in the European countries they studied were two times as likely as the average consumer to say that Facebook products influence their brand awareness and motivations, including activities like advocating for a brand in their own network online (read more from Facebook).
    • This same report showed that at the end of 2018, people under the age of 35 spent a total of 21.1 billion hours on mobile compared to 16.0 billion hours consuming live TV content. And Gen Zers specifically now spend over four hours a day on mobile versus less than 1.5 hours per day in front of linear or streaming TV (source Facebook)
  16. Over 1.4 billion people now use Facebook Groups every month so if you are committed to providing real value versus just promotional content this might be a great communication outlet to consider.
  17. There are over 10M+ groups on Facebook where users say this is a way for them to build a community around shared expertise, passions, beliefs, and situations.
    • Gen Zers say they are most open to brands in the following core vertical markets posting in their online groups:
      • Auto: 91 percent
      • Banking: 83 percent
      • CPG with a focus on food: 80 percent
    • This can best be done by providing exclusive experience combined with behind-the-scenes content or ways to collaborate.

  20. 43% of Gen Zers surveyed say they find it difficult to choose what to watch, listen to, and read. Gen Z is already estimated to influence $143B in spending in the US alone according to the Barkley report.
